Caroline Numina (Anmatyerre)

Caroline Numina, born in 1971, is an Anmatyerre artist from Ti Tree, Central Australia. Raised on Stirling Station with her siblings, she learned painting at a young age from her Aunties, renowned artists Kathleen and Gloria Petyerre.

The women of Caroline’s family preserve vital stories, such as the ‘Bush Medicine Leaves’ Dreaming, ensuring the continuation of traditional practices. Knowing, carrying, and reinforcing these cultural stories shows respect for Country and Ancestors through the important responsibility of keeping stories and traditions alive.

Caroline Numina’s art is celebrated across Australia and sought after by international collectors.

The ‘Bush Medicine Leaves’ Dreaming depicts the leaves of a special plant used for healing purposes. The women of the Utopia region carefully gather the bush leaves to make medicines and infusions, using cultural knowledge passed down to them through generations.
